Comics Days 2022
June 4 – August 28, 2022
Comic artist Marcel Ruijters takes visitors back to 1913. Everything is retro, technology is advancing, but culturally we have stumbled backwards into the 21st century. The 1913 cycle is a declaration of love for and an analysis of the medium of 'comics'. On the one hand, Marcel chooses personal elements that can be absurdist or surrealist, on the other hand he tries to provide them with a coherent inner logic, which arises from the individuality of the medium. The series starts with The 9th Island. This title refers both to the 9th Art and to 'island hopping', or the way in which a comic page is read, from picture to picture. This exhibition gives a good insight into the world that Marcel Ruijters has developed, based on the fact that it will forever be 1913.
