twilight zone (Verwey Museum Haarlem)

September 1 - October 30, 2023

Satijn Panyigay makes photographic work that invites the viewer to slow down. Fascinated by the human psyche, she mainly photographs empty spaces that temporarily fail to fulfill their function. Such as the empty exhibition spaces of museums and their depots, interiors of new homes and buildings during renovation.
Satijn takes her analogue photos during solitary, meditative explorations of the abandoned places. This creates images that create a balance between light and dark, serenity and gloom, resilience and vulnerability. Her tight yet poetic work, devoid of direct human narratives, is surprisingly humane – it speaks to the feelings of the observer.

The extensive Twilight Zone series shows, among others, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Kröller-Müller Museum and FOAM. Satijn also photographed Verwey Museum Haarlem, before the halls were filled with art. The series Twilight Zone (Verwey Museum Haarlem) can be seen in the Cabinet.

Previous exhibitions by Panyigay include Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam, NL); Photo Museum The Hague (The Hague, NL); Museum Tot Zover (Amsterdam, NL); Villa Mondrian (Winterswijk, NL), Museum W (Weert, NL). Her work is included in the collections of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Museum Tot Zover, Museum Van Bommel Van Dam and Museum W.
