the silent loves of erik mattijssen
September 24, 2022 – March 27, 2023
With Erik Mattijssen (1957) the things that are easy to overlook often play a leading role. Things with a history that are part of a collective memory, or simple utensils from the market. He likes to look at the way they are arranged on kitchen tables, in living rooms, on windowsills or a stall. Sometimes he gives the imagination a lot of panache in small scenes, in which there are things that do not really belong there.
In Paris he found a dream of a grocery store, Épicerie du Monde, in Kolkata (India) an entire neighborhood with plastic household items that naturally led to his colorful installations.
