Sacha Zwiers
Title: Ancestor of the Reetlands
Masks already served as a form to tell her story in Sacha's art, so she did not have to hesitate to participate in the SOTT project. The source of inspiration for this mask, which Sacha calls “Ancestor of the Reetlands”, lies with her ancestors. Her family comes partly from Giethoorn and the surrounding area, the water, the reedlands and the old natural religions there form the basis of her work.
Sacha often uses braided fabric for her masks and adds chains, clay and often reeds or dried grasses. Braiding has a spiritual meaning that goes back to Celtic history and corn spirits.
Sacha's works can generally be recognized by the use of many colors and her folkloric touch, where she always keeps the aesthetic in mind.
