About Purple Friday
Purple Friday is a day on which people can show their solidarity with gay, bisexual, lesbian and transgender youth by wearing the color purple. In the Netherlands, Purple Friday is organized by the Gay-Straight Alliances (GSA) network of LGBT+ advocacy organization COC. This is done mainly because research has shown that it is not safe enough to come out in half of the schools and the suicide rate among homosexual youth is five times higher than among heterosexual youth.
