The exhibition features a monumental drawing on paper, made with charcoal and pastel chalk. Rockpool (Turquoise) is inspired by De Rooij's Irish travels and shows stone formations and water controlled by tidal currents. De Rooij zooms in on details to give the viewer access to a very large world. Sometimes she uses a quote from the American writer John Steinbeck The Log from the Sea of Cortez (1951) in relation to her drawings: “All things are one thing and that one thing is all things – plankton, a glittering phosphorescence on the sea and the glittering planets and the expanding universe, all bound together by the elastic cord of time. ”
Into the depths Rockpool (Turquoise), obtained through the progression of the colors and their structure, draws you into the different layers of geological time.
