studio in pictures – kees verwey, nico koster, hans de bruijn

until January 18, 2026

The studio is the heart of the artist's life. What is often an inaccessible and therefore mythical place for outsiders, is here opened up in a personal way. Step into the wonderful world of the studio and look at the art that is created here with different eyes.

Enter the wonderful world of the studio

Studio in pictures offers a unique insight into Verwey's studio. A selection of paintings in which he captured his studio are shown alongside unique photographs of this studio, taken in 1976 by photographer Nico Koster. These photographs and studio pieces are supplemented with portraits of contemporary artists such as Marlene Dumas, Levi van Veluw and Folkert de Jong, who were captured in their own studios by the Haarlemphotographer Hans de Bruijn for his book 90 Artist PortraitsThe portraits form a fascinating dialogue between Verwey's historical workspace and that of the current generation of artists, thus creating a conversation between the past and the present.
